The great migration classic Tanzania 8 days safari If you want to see the largest herd movement of animals on the planet and also visit the best national parks in northern Tanzania, this is the perfect itinerary for you. The focus during this trip will be on the western part of the Serengeti, where the Great Migration crossing the Grumeti River from June to October. The herds of wildebeest and zebra must outsmart the huge Nile crocodiles and fast flowing water before facing predators waiting on the other side.
Day 0: Arrival – Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be met by your driver and transferred to Hotel in Arusha for dinner and overnight. Settle into your accommodation, ready to start your safari proper in the morning. Depending on your arrival time, you may have your pre-safari briefing today of Tanzania Safari; if not, it will take place early tomorrow morning before depart for safari.
Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After an early breakfast in your comfort lodge. you will drive to Tarangire National Park with packed lunch for a game drive. This lovely park has the largest concentrations of elephants in the world and the highest number of breeding bird species. Especially during the dry season, Tarangire National park is packed with wildlife. Big cats like lions, cheetahs and leopards, but also the seldom seen Kudu, Oryx and Gerenuk. The Tarangire River draws huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, as well as predators who prey upon them.
Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast you go on a walking tour in farming town Mto wa Mbu. This village is unique in Tanzania since it is home to over 120 different tribes from across Africa and forms a colourful mix of customs. Your walking guide will take you to rice and banana plantations, a local beer factory, a school and a carving factory. Discover the traditional way of life of the villagers. Continue to Lake Manyara National park, which is only a few minutes’ drive from Mto wa Mbu. Lake Manyara is known for its huge soda lake filled with pink-hued flamingos, large population of baboons, incredible birdlife and breathtaking views.
Day 3: Serengeti National Park (Northern)
This morning you drive to the famous Serengeti National Park. On the way you will stop at a Maasai village to get an insight in the lifestyle of these graceful warriors. Upon arrival in the Serengeti, you first have a picnic lunch and then continue with a beautiful game drive. There is a big change you can see the Great Migration of wildebeest crossing the Mara River in this area of the Serengeti between June to September.The herds must outsmart the crocodiles and fast flowing water before facing predators waiting on the other side. An amazing spectacle. Dinner and overnight are at the beautiful Serengeti Tented Lodge in North Serengeti for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park (Northern)
Rise up early, so that you can depart your lodge for a full day moving with the herds across the plains exploring the Great Migration.Morning and afternoon game drives in North Serengeti national park with early departure looking for active predators and other wildlife. Sightings in the area include prides of lions, leopards, cheetahs, crocodiles, hippos, elephants, giraffes, black rhino, topis, hartebeests and many more.
One of the best places to observe the wildebeest migration is at the Mara River. The Mara River runs through Kenya and Tanzania and lies directly in the path of migration for multiple animals in the Masai Mara & Serengeti National Park. It is also a vital part of the river system that brings water to the region.
Day 5: Serengeti National Park (Northern – Central)
Starting your day after a heavy breakfast, today you will head south towards the central serengeti. The 4-5 hrs drive to the center will offer mild en route game. The drive south from the Mara river valley takes you through hill country, the Lobo area, woodlands and then back into the seronera terrain. The central portion of the Serengeti – known as Seronera area is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. As you make your way into the seronera region, you will begin to notice the hilly and broken terrain altering into plain grasslands. Here, one must really look out for the many lion prides that thrive in this region. The interactions and survival of these lion prides provide an excellent game viewing experience all year round. A picnic lunch will be done during the day long drive itself. The eventful day comes to an end with a heavy dinner and a good night’s rest in your accommodation. Dinner and overnight will be at the selected Tented Lodge Central, where a delectation of dining, rest and, relaxation await us, and a sleep upon the ‘Endless Plain’ as our minds eye roves over the sights and sounds of the day.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park -Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After having a delicious and heavy breakfast, depart for a game drive you will leave Serengeti with a game drive to explore the central portion of the Serengeti National Park today while heading to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The legendary Serengeti National Park is the most renowned safari destination for its incredible population of lions and leopards. The central portion of the Serengeti – known as Seronera area is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. It features the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. During the off season of the migration, one must really look out for the many lion pride that thrive in this region.
Later on after this beautiful scenery tour with full of memories we starts our en-route game drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, on the way we will be able to spot different animals and bird species, then upon our arrival at Ngorongoro Conservation Area for dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge. Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge, situated only a few hundred meters from the crater’s rim, offers a perfect base to explore the Ngorongoro Crater and its surroundings.
Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater – Departure Day
After an early breakfast, depart with picnic lunch and drive to Ngorongoro crater for a full day of game drive. You will wake up early morning, having your breakfast in the morning before starting to depart to Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive, the 600 m deep caldera you will descend the crater for a game drive. The 5-6-hour game drive on the crater floor will show you a lot of animal action. Keeping the camera ready is definitely recommended. Since Ngorongoro Crater is compact you can have an access to see different and many animals and birds in short period of time. The African elephant, buffalo, Black rhino, Hippos, Hyenas, Cheetahs and Lions are found in plenty, afternoon you will head out OF Crater to Arusha town to complete our tour, or you can be taken direct to the airport ready to catch your-flight to the next destination.
