Zanzibar Island
Zanzibar is an archipelago of islands in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of mainland Tanzania. The largest of these is Unguja, commonly known as Zanzibar. This magical place is a fairy tale world. Pristine beaches, hidden forests with rare monkeys, dolphin-friendly enclaves and ancient towns of narrow cobbled streets steeped in history. The north and west sides of the island are endless beaches with turquoise waters and coral reefs. The southeastern region is home to continuous waves that are popular with surfers and dolphin watchers.
Visitors can participate in various excursions. Hike through the Jozani Forest. or meet impressive sea turtles on Prison Island – some over 150 years old!Those seeking deep relaxation can enjoy a massage or sundowner his drink on the beach .
Zanzibar’s history is rich with influences from the Arab world, Portuguese merchants and neighboring India. Visitors can see intricately carved doors and beds and the intense spices that flavor everything from food to coffee. Zanzibar may feel otherworldly, but it is still part of Tanzania and a must to fully visit this amazing country.
Visiting Zanzibar between January & July
This is a great time to visit Zanzibar if you don’t mind the heat and humidity. The days are sunny and hot. January to March offer some of the best diving conditions. A good underwater dive is all about wind, the tides and what you can view underwater – the lagoons and coral reefs can be explored in clear waters, particularly on the south coast. The weather in Zanzibar will start to turn from about mid-March as the ‘long rains’ become more imminent.
April and May mark the start of what’s known as the ‘long rains’ on these islands. The rainfall in April and May is far heavier than any other time of year, and results in mild and very wet weather on the beaches. If you want to enjoy the best weather Zanzibar has to offer, this is not a good time to visit.
Best Time For Tanzania Safari.
The months from June to October are the best times to go to Zanzibar as the heavy rains have cleared. These weather conditions are perfect for long days, relaxing in the sun and exploring the wonderful sights of the ‘Spice Island’, maybe on a romantic Zanzibar honeymoon.
